A man is reported in critical condition following a shooting incident involving Salt Lake City police as he fled from a traffic stop late Monday night. The man, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, was shot on railroad tracks after the police officer commanded him to halt, which he reportedly ignored.
The altercation began when the suspect failed to stop his vehicle, which was later found abandoned after crashing into parked cars. The West Jordan Police Department is leading the ongoing investigation, and the involved officer has been placed on paid administrative leave—a standard procedure following such incidents. Body-camera footage of the encounter is expected to be released within 10 business days.
