A 21-year-old man, Kewion Kingcade, is charged with pointing a gun at Chicago police officers, prompting them to shoot him during a chaotic scene in the Galewood neighborhood late Saturday night. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of North Austin Avenue, where police were called to disperse a large crowd amidst escalating tension.
Authorities report that Kingcade allegedly fled from officers, only to turn with a weapon in hand, leading to two officers firing shots that struck him in the legs and hand. Kingcade was subsequently hospitalized in fair condition while an officer was taken for observation. He faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault of a peace officer and unlawful possession of a loaded weapon, and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
