How to Choose the Best Glock 34 Holster

The purpose of the Glock 34 is precision shooting. It was specifically designed to provide superior accuracy to competition shooters in a wide variety of disciplines and has found favor amongst everyday users as well.

Choosing a holster for your Glock 34 can be a complicated business. The slightly longer barrel and slide mean that many smaller holsters will not accommodate it. In addition, if you like to carry your pistol concealed, the slightly larger dimensions of the Glock 34 make it difficult to hide adequately.

In addition, many shooters who own the Glock 34 use it primarily for competition shooting, which brings with it its own requirements. For everyday use, a holster that holds your weapon securely is perfect, but in competition, this can slow down your draw, and impact your performance.

Fear not, though! With the holsters available today, there is no trade-off between weapon retention and draw speed.

When choosing any holster, and especially one for your Glock 34, you should keep in mind the following:

Weapon Security

Weapon security should be your first concern when choosing any holster, and the Glock 34 is no different. You want a holster that will hold your weapon securely, and that also provides sufficient safeguards against accidental discharge.

Some of the best holsters available for your Glock 34 now offer fully adjustable retention screws. These mean that it is possible to adjust the tightness with which the holster grips your weapon. This is useful if you own several similar weapons, because you can adjust the holster for each.

It is also especially useful for those who shoot in competitions, but also carry their weapon on an everyday basis. For competition, you can slightly relax the hold your holster has on your weapon for greater draw speeds, and then tighten it back up again for normal carrying.

Another thing to look for is the trigger guard mechanism. The guard on your holster should ideally cover the entire trigger mechanism, to avoid accidental discharge.

Type of Holster

There are several different positions in which you can carry your pistol – inside or outside your waistband, on your hip, or even in a pocket holster. Each has advantages and disadvantages.

We’re going to assume, if you are reading this review, that you use your Glock 34, at least sometimes, for competitions. Accordingly, all the holsters we recommend sit on your waistband.

Ease of Access

Ideally, you want a holster that holds your weapon securely, whilst also allowing you to draw it really quickly. In the real world, though, there is a slight compromise to be made between security and ease of draw.

In general, the more deeply concealed your weapon is, the slower you will be able to draw it. This is why competition shooters use outside-the-waistband configurations.

Another feature to look for is variable cant – the angle at which your weapon sits when in the holster. Different people prefer different cants, and you can even adjust this angle depending on the situation.

Concealment

If you carry your pistol concealed, it goes without saying that you want a holster that hides your weapon well. With the Glock 34, this can be a little difficult, because the longer barrel of this weapon makes it a but more bulky than your average pistol.

As with other guns, the major obstacle to concealment of this weapon is printing. Though some people worry unduly about this, it can be a problem. Luckily, the best holsters for your Glock 34 are now designed to either sit inside your waistband, where printing is less of a problem, or to break up the outline of your gun.

Of course, if you are shooting in competitions, concealment is less of an issue. In these situations, you want a holster that will allow you to draw quickly, because if you are standing on the range everybody already knows you have a pistol!

Durability

Last, but of course not least, look for a holster that will provide years of reliable service. Whilst it may look like hard-case holsters, typically made from extruded plastic, will last the longest, this is not necessarily true. Soft holsters, if made from tough fabric, can last equally as long.

That said, all the holsters we recommend for the Glock 34 are hard case. With a serious weapon such as this, you need to make sure that it is protected and securely held.

Simply a great holster, and our number-one choice for the Glock 34. This holster has been specifically designed for competition use, so if you are looking for a holster that will improve your performance, this is a great choice.

In addition, the Blade Tech Industries Revolution comes equipped with many extra features, all of which add value to the holster:

  • First off, the holster is IDPA approved right from the box. If you are new to competition shooting, this is great, because it means that you can be sure your equipment fits the relevant standards and limitations.
  • The propriety Kydex polymer used to make this holster will last forever. It is amongst the sturdiest holster materials that we have tested, and we are sure that it will give you man years of reliable service.
  • The cut of this holster is just right. It fits your Glock 34 extremely well, encasing it tightly without being too bulky. The cut at the top of the holster, which is at the IDPA limit, also means that when drawing it in competition you can gain that microsecond advantage that makes all the difference.
  • As for disadvantages, in truth this holster has very few. If you are using the Glock 34 for law enforcement, the level 1 retention system might be a little too light, but for competition use this holster is second to none.

2. Fobus Standard Holster

the Fobus Standard Holster for Glock 34 is slimline, whilst also providing a good deal of protection for your weapon

If you are looking for a holster for your Glock 34 that works great both in competition environments and in everyday carry situations, this is the one to go for. In fact, many competition shooters go for this holster because using it in everyday situations gives them practice outside the range.

  • This holster is slimline, whilst also providing a good deal of protection for your weapon. Even in competition shooting, a bulky holster can distract you from what you are supposed to be focusing on – hitting the target.
  • The passive retention on this holster can be adjusted with a screw, meaning that your draw always feels the same. This allows you to find the perfect balance between security and draw speed, and ensures that you always have access to this perfect set up.
  • The tough polymer body of this holster is a marvel. If you are looking for a competition holster that you can also use day-in, day-out, then this is the one to go for.

The huge advantage of this holster is its adaptability. With this holster, you not only get a full 360 degrees of rotational freedom, but the cant is infinitely adjustable. If you are used to a particular holster angle, or need one for a specific situation, this flexibility is great.

In addition, this holster comes with some added features:

  • The redundant screws in the weapon retention system are an innovative feature. With so much freedom to adjust the holding angle of your weapon, we expected that it would not be held so securely in some positions – we were wrong!
  • The flexibility of this holster is not limited to its cant. The unique back plate means that it can be used as both a paddle holster or a belt holster, and converted between the two easily, and without tools.
  • As its name suggests, this holster works with a level two retention system, in which the gun is released with your thumb. Some find this a bit of an awkward system, but once you are used to it it works really well.

  1. Great holsters but how well do they fair on the stock Glock 34 G3 black finish with TRU-GLO PRO TRILLIUM FIBER OPTIC SIGHTS ? I hear that there is a wearing away of the black protective coating on the slide at various places as well as other points of contact. Do these holsters work excellently with custom SIGHTS and to what varying degrees. Thank you for your time.

  2. The Fobus paddle holster DOES NOT fit a gen5 model 34mos. The trigger guard is too wide to insert without ALOT of force, the mold is too narrow there, Even with the screw backed all the way out. I can tell it’s not made for this particular model. The Fobus paddle for the M&P Shield fits perfectly, that’s why i tried it for my Glock

  3. The finish on the slides of the newer Glocks scratch easily, it’s terrible in my opinion. I bought a brand new Glock 35 Gen 4 a couple of years ago and it had multiple scratches on both sides of the slide straight out of the box brand new. I asked the dealer about it and they said it’s common, nearly all new shipments they receive have scratches on them due to the new finish. It doesn’t matter how careful you are when handling them they are very susceptible to any kind of contact and will scratch very easily.
That’s unacceptable in my opinion. Sure, you’re gonna get wear and tear on the firearm with use, but it shouldn’t have any kind of damage straight from the factory. And, these scratches don’t come off. I tried everything to get rid of them. The only thing that worked was to get the whole slide cerakoted, which I did and it looks great, but that’s not the point.
