What to Consider When Purchasing an IWB Holster for Glock 43

There are a few things to consider when looking for a holster for your Glock 43. When you consider the items listed below, it will help you determine which holster is the best for your situation.

Handedness of Your Glock 43 Holster

Whether you are right- or left-handed will make a difference when ordering a holster. Most holsters aren’t ambidextrous, meaning they can only be used on one side. When purchasing a holster, especially online, it’s important to look carefully at the listing to ensure you order the correct side.

Retention

Most Inside the Waistband (IWB) holsters don’t come with retention straps, though it’s not outside the realm of possibility. Usually, they rely on passive retention (firearm-specific molding) to keep the weapon secured. But, if you’re looking at using a belly band holster as an IWB concealment holster, these do come with additional retention straps.

Concealment Wardrobe

If you plan to carry a concealed firearm, you’ll have to take into account your wardrobe choices. Most IWB holsters don’t ride low enough in the pants to completely conceal the pistol from view.

Adding long t-shirts, a sweater or hoodie, or a sports jacket can help to ensure concealment. Make sure you can guarantee concealment when you bend over or do other activities that might pull your shirt up.

Glock 43 Holster Draw Speed

Carrying concealed means you’re likely carrying for self-defense or as a secondary backup weapon. In self-defense situations, you’ll want to make sure you can draw the weapon quickly in a drastic situation.

Since most IWB holsters don’t have additional retention straps or release buttons, the only thing to consider is your clothing slowing down your draw.

Glock 43 In Waistband Holster Basics

Let’s talk about some of the basics of the average Inside the Waistband (IWB) holster.

  • Material — most IWB holsters are made of polymer, Kydex, or leather. However, the Pocket Holster by Sticky Holsters, which can also be used IWB, can be made of leather or nylon. Some shooters don’t prefer Kydex polymer, stating it has the potential to mar the pistol’s finish.
  • Retention — IWB holsters usually have passive retention; the molded polymer itself holds the pistol in place. You should hear an audible ‘click’ when the weapon is properly holstered. With some holsters, you can adjust this retention.
  • Cant — cant refers to carry angle. Many IWB holsters have an adjustable cant, so you can set up the holster to the best angle for you. Most of them range from 0 to 15 degrees (called FBI cant).
  • Ride — this refers to the height of the holster. Some IWB holsters are adjustable for height, so you can control how deep your holster fits in your pants.

Glock 43 Holster Features to Look For

Some features you might want to look for in an IWB holster for your Glock 43 include:

  • Retention — you’ll want to look for a holster that offers adjustable retention. This ensures a good fit to your pistol.
  • Adjustable cant (carry angle) — a holster with adjustable cant can be adjusted to be more comfortable for the wearer.
  • Warranty — a satisfaction guarantee or other warranty is always a good thing to seek when buying a holster.

  1. What’s up with the belt clips on holsters ? They don’t positively secure the holster to your body. My holster and pistol has fallen off several times when getting up from the sitting position. A proper holster needs belt loops not clips !!!
