This past weekend, St. Louis police seized a ghost gun and arrested 20-year-old Eric Eichelberger following reports of individuals armed with weapons in the Peabody-Darst-Webbe neighborhood. Authorities discovered a short-barrel AR-15 without a serial number and an auto-sear switch, effectively converting the firearm into a fully automatic weapon, during a search of Eichelberger’s backpack.
The police response was prompted by reports of men wearing ski masks, prompting a helicopter unit to assist ground officers in locating the suspects. Eichelberger now faces charges for illegal weapon possession and remains in custody without bond, with a detention hearing scheduled for May 19. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about the rise of untraceable firearms in urban areas.
