Two men working for the nonprofit violence interrupter group 21 Days of Peace have been indicted following a shooting incident in north Minneapolis. Alvin Watkins Jr., 50, and Kashmir McReynolds, 35, faced a three-count indictment after they allegedly engaged in gunfire during an event hosted by the organization aimed at curbing violence in the community.
On March 10, while wrapping up their shifts at a community barbecue, McReynolds was injured by gunfire when an unknown assailant fired approximately 30 shots at them. Court documents reveal that both men retaliated by firing 43 rounds in their defense, a conflict that raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of violence intervention efforts in the area. “These defendants will be held to account,” stated Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson, highlighting the gravity of their actions in a program designed to promote community safety.
