York Regional Police have charged 23 individuals in connection with an extensive investigation dubbed Project Chatter, targeting the trafficking of fentanyl and illegal firearms across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). This months-long operation led to 15 executed search warrants across multiple cities, including Toronto and Mississauga, and resulted in the seizure of 32 illegal firearms and over 700,000 fentanyl doses valued at more than $7 million.
Authorities emphasize that this is one of their most significant enforcement actions to date, with the accused facing over 300 charges related to drug trafficking and organized crime. In total, police recovered more than $130,000 in Canadian currency and additional foreign currency during the coordinated raids. The investigation received funding support from the Ontario Government, illustrating a robust commitment to combating the dangers of drug trafficking and gun violence in the region.
