Alton Residents March Against Gun Violence Near School

Residents of Alton took to the streets on Saturday to protest gun violence, following a distressing incident where shots were fired near a school bus. Led by neighborhood organizer Jeff Sherwood and Alton Mayor David Goins, about 30 community members marched along Central Avenue to voice their concerns, emphasizing the need for safer environments for children in the area.

During the march, attendees bowed their heads in prayer, reflecting a shared commitment to prevent future violence. “If we don’t want a dead child, we must do something about this now,” Sherwood stated, highlighting the urgency of community action. This powerful gathering not only showcased the residents’ solidarity but also facilitated connections among neighbors, who expressed their weariness of the ongoing violence.
