Two years after the City of Los Angeles secured a $5 million settlement from Nevada-based gun manufacturer Polymer80, the funds are still unreceived, prompting the City Council to consider hiring outside legal counsel for collection efforts. The city’s attorney, Hydee Feldstein Soto, emphasizes the need for local representation to effectively advance their case, citing Polymer80’s non-compliance with the stipulated payment schedule established in the settlement.
The settlement not only mandates the payment but also prohibits Polymer80 from selling “ghost gun” kits in California without background checks. Despite these requirements, the company has yet to demonstrate any intent to fulfill their financial obligations, raising critical concerns about compliance and public safety, especially given the potential dangers posed by unserialized firearms.
