AG Knudsen Requests $10M for Indoor Gun Range Funding

Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen has formally requested $10 million from the state legislature to construct an indoor gun range at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy (MLEA) in Helena. This funding is deemed essential for improving law enforcement training, particularly the ability to conduct firearms practice without the challenges posed by seasonal weather and scheduling conflicts at outdoor facilities.

With the current training regimen often hampered by inclement conditions, Knudsen emphasizes the importance of a dedicated facility to enhance cadet preparedness. “Last winter, we had cadets who received only three days of firearms training due to weather,” he stated, highlighting the necessity for an indoor range that can provide safe and controlled conditions, thereby improving the overall training experience for future Montana law enforcement professionals.
