The Albuquerque Police Department, in collaboration with New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence, is organizing a gun buyback event on Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to noon at the APD’s University Substation. Participants can receive cash rewards of up to $250, depending on the type of firearm surrendered, encouraging community members to safely dispose of unwanted weapons that could pose safety risks.
This initiative marks the third collaboration between APD and the advocacy group, aiming to enhance public safety while providing a creative solution for disposing of surrendered firearms—turning scrap metals into gardening tools and art pieces crafted by local high school students. Attendees will also receive free gun locks and tickets to local sporting events, underlining the community-focused approach of the event.
