This year, Arkansas hunters set a new record by harvesting 11,332 wild turkeys during the recent hunting season, an impressive 22 percent increase from the previous year. This marks the most successful season since 2016, driven by favorable weather conditions and a higher number of birds due to excellent hatching in recent years, according to David Moscicki, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s turkey program coordinator.
Moscicki highlights that this increase reflects a consistent upward trend over the past five years, fueled by good weather during both the hunting and brood-rearing seasons. He emphasizes the importance of continued monitoring of turkey populations as Arkansas enters a critical nesting period, making it vital for wildlife enthusiasts to participate in ongoing surveys to track the health of the turkey population moving forward.
