Armed Robbery During Facebook Marketplace Meeting

Durham police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred in Pickering when a jewelry sale arranged through Facebook Marketplace took a dangerous turn. On the evening of July 7, the victim met the young male suspect, who presented an envelope in exchange for the jewelry, only for the victim to discover the envelope was empty. When confronted, the suspect pulled out a firearm, prompting a swift getaway in a dark-colored vehicle.

Authorities describe the suspect as a young man, approximately 18 to 20 years old and around five feet seven inches tall with a slender build. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during this alarming incident, but police are urging anyone with information to come forward. This situation highlights the potential dangers of conducting transactions through online marketplaces, making it crucial for buyers and sellers to remain vigilant.
