Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis has identified 18-year-old Devin Guevara as the suspect shot by officers following a high-speed chase that ended in North Austin. The incident occurred on Saturday night when officers attempted to pull over a stolen vehicle, leading to a pursuit that ended with Guevara colliding with another vehicle after losing a tire. As officers approached, Guevara fired multiple shots at them, prompting the police to return fire, striking him in the clavicle.
The confrontation resulted in no serious injuries to the four officers involved, while the driver of the vehicle that Guevara crashed into received minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Guevara faces multiple charges, including three counts of aggravated assault against a public servant, as the police investigation continues into the vehicle’s ownership. Chief Davis emphasized the courage of the officers involved, reporting that this shooting marks the third officer-involved shooting in May, confirming concerns over rising violence directed at law enforcement.
