Isiah Matthews, 58, has died after suffering gunshot wounds during a robbery incident on February 18 in Austin, a neighborhood of Chicago. He was initially injured while trying to intervene in the robbery of a 68-year-old woman, who was approached by an armed man demanding her belongings. Matthews later succumbed to his injuries more than three weeks after the shooting, with the Cook County medical examiner ruling his death a homicide.

After being transferred from Stroger Hospital to West Suburban Medical Center, he faced complications leading to his death on March 12.
