Authorities have discovered hundreds of burned firearms, including rifles, shotguns, and handguns, in the rubble of homes lost to the recent Palisades Fire in Pacific Palisades. The LAPD’s firearms unit is diligently working to identify these weapons by examining serial numbers and other characteristics, which is critical for ensuring that any unaccounted firearms are properly logged and managed.
Detectives report that the fire’s intense heat has even compromised firearms stored in fire-resistant safes, some of which are now warped or disintegrated. Many of these weapons hold significant sentimental value for their owners, prompting the LAPD to encourage fire victims to come forward if they believe their firearms were destroyed. “Getting that piece of property back that might have had sentimental value is our ultimate goal,” said Det. Pat Hoffman.
