Carlsbad Man Barred from Gun Ownership After Shooter Chats

A 21-year-old man from Carlsbad, Alexander Charles Paffendorf, is prohibited from owning guns for three years after engaging in concerning online discussions with a Wisconsin school shooter. These messages, exchanged via Discord, included references to gun violence, bomb-making, and attacks on government buildings, raising alarms from law enforcement and mental health professionals.

During a court hearing, Judge Blair Soper expressed serious concern over the severity of the chats, stating that the incident was still fresh and requiring cautious intervention. While Paffendorf has not faced criminal charges, the FBI’s involvement highlights the potential threats posed by his communications, which included alarming references to previous mass attacks and extremist online content.
