A 24-year-old Central New York man, Douglas Smallwood Jr., is arrested after nearly a pound of fentanyl, illegal firearms, and over $9,000 in cash are found in his Utica home during a federal investigation. The findings come after police received tips suggesting Smallwood might be selling drugs from his apartment, leading to undercover purchases that confirmed his illicit activities.
During a search on February 11, investigators seized 789 baggies of fentanyl and multiple loaded pistols, including a device capable of converting a handgun into a machine gun. In addition to federal charges for possession with intent to distribute, Smallwood faces 13 counts of first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance in local court, raising concerns about ongoing drug sales in the area.
