Cincinnati Updates on Crime and Safety Strategies

Cincinnati officials report that ongoing efforts to address crime are underway, with a newly deployed Street Crime Task Force making 53 arrests in its first week. Among these arrests, nearly 25% were gun-related, highlighting a troubling trend where stolen firearms continue to drive violence in the city. Police Chief Teresa Theetge noted that of the 12 guns recovered, two were confirmed stolen, and calls for public safety remain at the forefront of the city’s agenda.

Despite a recent decrease in shooting incidents—down by 17% compared to last year—property thefts are increasingly prevalent, with over 1,000 thefts reported in just the last 28 days. City Manager Sheryl Long points to innovative measures, such as nighttime restrictions on e-scooters and the introduction of drones for surveillance, as part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance community safety. The efforts gain significance against a backdrop of rising gun violence, prompting the ATF to offer cash rewards for information related to recent crimes.
