Clark County Nonprofit Loses $1M Anti-Gun Grant

A Clark County nonprofit faces a loss of over $1 million after the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) abruptly terminates its anti-gun violence grant. The coalition, which includes nine local partners, had been working on strategies to combat increasing gun-related incidents among youth, investing approximately $400,000 in initial programming and staffing based on a total grant of $1.6 million.

In a surprising email announcing the grant’s termination, the DOJ cited that the project no longer aligns with their agency goals, leaving the coalition without critical funding and forcing them to appeal for reimbursement of advance costs. Leslie Crew, a coalition member, highlights the ongoing commitment to reducing gun violence despite local budget constraints, emphasizing the need for resources to sustain their initiatives aimed at protecting vulnerable community members.
