Concealed Carry Policy Draft Released by Laramie County Board

The Laramie County School District 1 (LCSD1) has released a draft policy for concealed carry on school property, while Freedom Elementary remains exempt due to federal regulations. This exemption stems from the school’s location on federal land, where even compliance with state law does not permit firearms on campus, highlighting a unique intersection of state and federal law.

The proposed policy seeks to align with new state legislation by requiring extensive training for employees and volunteers who wish to carry a firearm, including a 16-hour initial training course and annual recurrent training. As public input is invited until June 20, officials emphasize the importance of clear communication about the policy’s implications, especially in light of community concerns over safety and effective training measures.
