Following the tragic murders of two young Conway residents just ten days apart, local officials have assured the community that the incidents are not connected. Mayor Barbara Jo Blain and Police Chief Dale Long announced ongoing investigations while emphasizing the city’s commitment to enhancing public safety through technology and community engagement. “We’re putting out cameras, license plate readers, and acoustical detectors,” said Chief Long, highlighting the proactive measures being implemented.
Both incidents involve significant loss; V’ron Gibbs, 24, and Ja’Niya Richburg, a Loris High School senior, were victims of separate shootings that have alarmed residents. Community leaders, including NAACP Conway chapter President Rev. Dr. Kenneth Floyd, are advocating for common-sense gun laws and increased police presence to combat future violence. The local government is also exploring youth programs and safety tools aimed at reducing gun-related incidents in Conway.
