Melvin Doyle, 59, the father of rapper Mello Buckzz, has been indicted on federal gun charges for allegedly selling firearms to confidential informants with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The indictment follows a tragic mass shooting during Mello Buckzz’s album release party in River North, which left four people dead and 14 injured. Court records reveal that Doyle, who has a criminal history that includes attempted murder and drug-related offenses, sold a total of 13 guns from May to July of this year despite being prohibited from possessing firearms under Illinois law.
Doyle’s interactions with ATF informants involved multiple transactions, including a meeting at his Washington Park home and subsequent sales at a Woodlawn residence. On one occasion, he sold three pistols for $3,000, with law enforcement closely monitoring the exchanges. Now in federal custody, he awaits a detention hearing as authorities deepen their investigation into the connections between his illegal activities and the broader issues of gun violence associated with the high-profile shooting incident.
