Dartmouth Police Arrest Man for Illegal Firearms Possession

A New Bedford man, Nathan Faria, is charged with illegal firearms possession following a domestic violence incident at the Dartmouth Motor Inn. During the arrest on June 28, officers discovered an AR-15 assault rifle, a shotgun, and high-capacity magazines concealed in Faria’s truck, revealing a severe breach of Massachusetts gun laws, especially as he lacked a valid firearms license.

This incident highlights the troubling link between domestic violence and illegal weapon possession, prompting local authorities to strengthen their response. Dartmouth Police Chief Brian P. Levesque emphasizes the importance of inter-agency cooperation in ensuring community safety, stating that the quick recovery of these firearms prevented further potential harm. With multiple charges pending, including possession of a silencer and violating an abuse prevention order, the case underscores effective law enforcement efforts in addressing firearm legality amid domestic threats.
