Davenport Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Gun Charges

Dontae Lamonte Burrage, a 36-year-old resident of Davenport, receives a 15-year federal prison sentence after being convicted of possessing a firearm as a felon and being classified as an Armed Career Criminal. This sentence comes after Burrage attempted to evade arrest by discarding a loaded pistol while fleeing from bail bond agents in February 2022. His extensive criminal history, which includes six prior state felony drug convictions, prohibits him from legally owning firearms under federal law.

The case is part of a broader initiative, Project Safe Neighborhoods, aimed at reducing gun violence and enhancing community safety in Davenport. Following his prison term, Burrage will be subject to five years of supervised release, highlighting the federal government’s zero-tolerance policy for firearm possession among individuals with serious criminal backgrounds. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa.
