Deputy Suspended After Gun Accident in Peach County School

Deputy John Stinson of the Peach County Sheriff’s Office is suspended for three days after accidentally firing his semi-automatic pistol while on duty at Peach County High School. The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m. when Stinson reportedly placed his firearm on the bathroom door handle, leading to an unexpected discharge as he retrieved it. Thankfully, no injuries were reported and school operations continued without disruption.

Following the incident, which violated uniform policy regarding firearm handling, Stinson is also mandated to complete a gun safety course to reinforce his weapon management skills. The Peach County Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that all school resource officers are required to carry loaded firearms while on duty, highlighting the importance of strict adherence to safety protocols in school environments.
