The Des Moines Police Department has released body camera footage and a summary of a deadly shooting involving police officers on January 2, which resulted in the death of 32-year-old Charquan Hargrove. Hargrove, armed and facing warrants for domestic abuse, allegedly fired upon the officers during an attempted arrest, prompting them to return fire, resulting in his death at the scene.

The incident, which unfolded at a residence on Meadow Court with children present, including an infant, raises significant concerns regarding police responses in domestic violence situations. Investigators report that the two officers fired a total of 26 shots, while Hargrove discharged his firearm four times. Both the Iowa Attorney General’s Office and the Polk County Attorney’s Office have cleared the officers of any wrongdoing in this case.
