An east Detroit gas station has been closed indefinitely after an employee reportedly fired a shotgun at a customer during an altercation Monday night. The clerk, in his late 20s, was arrested following the incident, which left the victim in his mid-30s with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Assistant Detroit Police Chief Franklin Hayes.
This gas station, located on Conant Street, is part of the city’s Project Green Light program, aimed at reducing crime via enhanced surveillance. However, the incident – which took place behind bulletproof glass – has led officials to remove the station from the program. Police stated that there had been no previous calls for service at this location, raising concerns about safety and accountability in business operations within the city.
