Española Man Sentenced to 13 Years for Drug and Weapons Charges

An Española man, Mario James Valdez, is sentenced to 13 years in federal prison after being found guilty of gun and drug trafficking. Federal prosecutors revealed that investigators uncovered an alarming arsenal in his bedroom, including six sticks of dynamite, a shotgun, and an AR-style rifle, alongside a cache of illicit substances such as fentanyl and crack cocaine.

Valdez, 35, was convicted of possessing illegal firearms and explosives, as well as trafficking in controlled substances. His conviction ensures he will serve his time without the possibility of parole and face an additional three years of supervised release once out. The case highlights ongoing concerns about the dangers posed by illegal weapons and narcotics in local communities.
