Ex-Mexican Officer Gets 63 Months for Gun Crimes in U.S.

Martin Eulalio Molina Lopez, a former Mexican police officer, is sentenced to 63 months in U.S. prison for illegally possessing firearms after he recruited straw purchasers at a Phoenix gun show. This case underscores the serious issues surrounding cross-border arms trafficking, as Molina Lopez was implicated in a scheme involving 38 firearms obtained illegally, despite being on a travel visa that prohibited such purchases.

The investigation, part of the Department of Justice’s Operation Take Back America, aimed to combat illegal arms trade and organized crime. Molina Lopez’s case highlights the collaborative efforts among law enforcement agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), to enforce laws designed to protect communities from the dangers posed by illegal firearms.
