Father Called ‘Hero’ After Shooting Intruder in Home

A Butts County father becomes a local hero after he shoots at an intruder, later identified as Abdil Aquil, who attempted to break into his children’s bedroom early Monday morning. Sheriff Gary Long commends the father, a military veteran, for his quick actions that likely prevented a potential homicide, stating, “Without the actions that he took, I really believe…we would’ve had a homicide.” Authorities report that Aquil faced multiple charges, including burglary and terroristic threats, after he allegedly shattered a window and made violent threats while partially inside the home.

Neighbors were left shaken by the incident, particularly due to the presence of three children in the home, raising concerns about their safety. Sheriff Long emphasizes the importance of community self-defense, revealing plans to hold monthly gun safety classes for residents. He advocates for responsible gun ownership, insisting that “an armed community is a safe community.” The father, who was unarmed at the initial confrontation, secured his firearm after the suspect had already broken in and made threats, underscoring the critical timing of his response.
