Firearm Industry Contributes $866M to Conservation Since 2008

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) reveals that the U.S. firearm and ammunition industry has contributed $866 million to wildlife conservation since 2008 via federal excise taxes. This substantial financial support is part of a broader economic footprint that has seen the industry’s impact grow from $19.1 billion in 2008 to $91.7 billion in 2024, a remarkable 379 percent increase over 16 years.

Additionally, the sector has generated over 383,000 jobs, representing a 130 percent rise, with average wages and benefits reaching $68,300. NSSF President and CEO Joe Bartozzi emphasizes the industry’s critical role in supporting jobs across various sectors, reinforcing its position as a vital contributor to local economies and conservation efforts. The annual report offers in-depth insights into the economic contributions and job creation across states.
