A 34-year-old Florida man has been indicted for allegedly transporting a cache of illegal weapons, including a loaded AK-47-style rifle, through New Jersey’s transit hubs. Jeffrey O. Kennerk, from Fort Lauderdale, is accused of leaving a zebra-print suitcase filled with firearms at Newark Penn Station before attempting to board an Amtrak train to Virginia.
Authorities discovered the weapons after officers found the unattended suitcase, which contained multiple firearms, loaded magazines, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. The indictment includes serious charges such as aggravated assault and possession of weapons for unlawful purposes. If convicted, Kennerk could face significant prison time, highlighting the grave public safety threat his actions posed during transit.
