Two Central Florida men, Derick Yamir Perez Diaz, 22, and Ernesto Vazquez, 23, are sentenced to 11 years in prison for a conspiracy involving the trafficking of firearms, including AK-47 assault rifles, aimed at smuggling them out of the United States. Both were found guilty of illegally purchasing over 100 guns, facilitated by a federally licensed dealer who knowingly sold to them despite their lack of proper licensing.
Authorities uncovered a scheme that involved the men coordinating purchases of Glock pistols and other firearms through various channels, including international sources. Text messages revealed their planning, with one exchange in November 2023 confirming a purchase of 40 Glocks. The operation was further exposed when law enforcement executed a search warrant, discovering multiple firearms and explosives at Vazquez’s residence, underscoring the scale and danger of their trafficking activities.
