Fort Wayne area law enforcement agencies have established the Northeast Indiana Crime Gun Intelligence Center to combat unlawful firearm possession and violent crime, including homicide cases. This initiative, supported by the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Chicago Field Division, involves collaboration among several local sheriff’s departments and police departments from the surrounding areas, reflecting a unified approach to enhancing public safety.
Already, this collaboration has facilitated arrests and prosecutions related to gun-related crimes, with Fort Wayne Police Chief Scott Caudill noting that utilizing ATF resources and the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) will significantly advance crime-solving efforts. Special Agent-in-Charge Christopher Amon emphasized the importance of this partnership in holding accountable those responsible for violence in the community and ensuring justice for victims.
