Northwell Health’s sixth annual Gun Violence Prevention Forum convenes prominent figures including actress Julianne Moore, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, and ex-U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan to address America’s ongoing gun violence crisis. This year’s hybrid event will take place on February 27, attracting 180 leaders in person and offering a virtual attendance option aimed at exploring actionable solutions to a significant public health issue that claims nearly 41,000 lives annually in the United States.
The forum will feature panel discussions and a special fireside chat with Moore, who emphasizes the urgent need to treat gun violence as a public health crisis rather than a political one. Northwell CEO Michael J. Dowling urges for accountability and measurable progress from healthcare systems, as conversations will delve into collaborative strategies between healthcare, government, and community leaders to reduce firearm-related injuries among youth. The Ad Council will also introduce a new campaign focused on combating youth gun violence, building on a $10 million commitment aimed at making substantive changes in this area.
