The Algiers Regional Library is set to host an impactful event on May 1, featuring a screening of the local documentary “This is New Orleans: Stories of Truth and Hope,” along with a community discussion on the causes and effects of gun violence. The event also includes a giveaway of free cable and biometric gun locks, available to Louisiana residents aged 18 and older, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., with supplies limited to a first-come, first-served basis.
The documentary highlights the personal experiences of New Orleanians regarding violence and advocates for meaningful change in the community. Participants interviewed locals to uncover the realities of gun violence, presenting solutions and sources of hope in a 25-minute film format. By facilitating this conversation, the library aims to empower attendees to engage with pressing social issues and take part in transformative community actions.
