On March 29, 2025, community organizations including the Provo Bay Chapter of the Delta Waterfowl Foundation installed 25 henhouses at Provo Bay in Utah Lake, enhancing the nesting habitat for local ducks. This initiative came after three years of collaboration with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and the Utah Lake Authority, aiming to combat the low survival rates of ground-nesting ducks, which face significant predation risks.
Since the program’s inception, previous installations saw a remarkable uptake, with seven of the first 12 nests being used within the first year. Experts estimate that the current number of henhouses could lead to a population increase of 500 ducks, reflecting strong demand for safe nesting sites in the region. The project not only supports wildlife conservation but also offers a way for the public to engage in protecting local ecosystems by respecting these vital habitats.
