New court records detail how 22-year-old Rheanna Harden was able to shoot a Marion County deputy after a series of three searches failed to uncover a gun hidden in her pants. Despite being handcuffed multiple times and patted down, Harden managed to free her left hand, retrieve a small revolver, and fire at the officer during transport following her arrest for driving offenses and drug possession.
The incident occurred during a traffic stop early Monday morning, and experts emphasize the challenge of missing the concealed weapon. Former Boca Raton police chief Andrew Scott remarked on the rarity of such an oversight, calling it difficult to miss a gun of that size, and noted that Harden’s actions escalated from anger over her treatment. Facing serious charges, including attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, Harden’s next court date is set for July 29.
