A Holt couple, retired military veterans Adrienne and Gene Gartman, is appealing a court decision that sided with Element Training Complex, a gun range that has been causing them distress since it opened in 2018. The Gartmans allege that ongoing noise from the range, located just behind their property, has significantly devalued their 80-acre farm and adversely affected their quality of life, as they cope with the sounds of gunfire at decibel levels that they claim are unsafe and unbearable.
The couple initially filed a lawsuit citing safety and nuisance concerns, but a judge found no merit in their complaints. As they await a decision on their two-year-old appeal, the Gartmans assert that their physical and mental well-being is deteriorating under the circumstances. Adrienne remarks, “This is our life. This is killing us,” emphasizing the profound impact that the gun range’s operations have had on their daily existence. They hope for a resolution that allows them to reclaim their peaceful surroundings.
