Illegal Gun Seizures Decline in Euclid Amid Police Efforts

Euclid police report a significant decline in illegal gun seizures, with numbers falling from 326 in 2022 to 268 in 2023 and 252 in 2024. Police Chief Scott Meyer attributes this decrease to increased community outreach and a focused response unit targeting violent crime, revealing that both illegal firearm possession and homicides have dropped concurrently in the city.

Despite the drop in seizures, police emphasize the ongoing danger posed by firearms in the wrong hands, especially following the tragic loss of Officer Jacob Derbin last May. The department stresses the need for gun owners to secure their weapons, as many seized firearms were stolen from unlocked vehicles, underscoring the importance of community involvement in keeping the streets safe.
