The Iowa Department of Natural Resources anticipates 60,000 to 80,000 hunters to participate, as festivities celebrate the accidental introduction of pheasants to Iowa’s landscape in 1901, which has since created a thriving sporting culture.
This year, the state also aims to encourage youth involvement in hunting with a special youth-only weekend that recently concluded, attracting about 7,000 young hunters. Recent roadside surveys indicate a healthy pheasant population, promising an exciting season ahead despite past fluctuations due to severe weather and habitat loss.
