Kaine Leads Push to Ban High-Capacity Gun Magazines

Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) collaborates with 21 Senate colleagues to introduce the Keep Americans Safe Act (KASA), which aims to restore a nationwide ban on high-capacity gun magazines that hold more than ten rounds. This initiative follows the expiration of a previous federal ban that, from 1994 to 2004, resulted in a 70% reduction in mass shooting fatalities, highlighting the potential impact of such legislation.

The KASA seeks to not only ban the sale and possession of newly manufactured high-capacity magazines but also includes provisions for buyback programs and the authorization for law enforcement to seize illegal magazines. Kaine underscores the urgency of this measure, asserting that the continuation of unrestricted access to high-capacity magazines contributes to preventable tragedies across the nation.
