Man Fires Flare Gun at Deputy in Marion County Incident

A Marion County man has been arrested after firing a flare gun at a deputy who was conducting a welfare check on him early Tuesday morning. The incident, captured on body camera footage, occurred around 4:20 a.m. on Highway 19, when the deputy approached Jacob Caldwell to ensure his safety.

In a bizarre turn of events, Caldwell not only shot the flare toward the patrol car but also exhibited erratic behavior, including removing his pants and throwing money at the deputy. Despite commands to stop, Caldwell refused and was ultimately subdued after the deputy used a Taser twice. He now faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
