A 28-year-old man is in critical condition after Chicago police shot him when he allegedly drove his vehicle toward officers responding to a fight where shots were fired early Saturday morning. The incident occurred around 2:10 a.m. outside a business on North Central Avenue, where an employee alerted police to a gunman involved in the altercation, leading them to the suspect’s red pickup truck.
As officers attempted to detain the man, he drove his truck into one of the officers, prompting police to fire upon him as he fled the scene. During the pursuit, police later found the truck abandoned on North Menard Avenue, where the man was discovered with gunshot wounds. A firearm was recovered from the vehicle, and the officer struck by the truck sustained only minor injuries and remained in good condition. Investigations into the incident, as well as another related shooting on the West Side, are ongoing.
