Two people are dead, and nine others are injured following a shooting in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park on Memorial Day. The victims include Amya Devlin, 23, and Mikhail Bowers, 21, who succumbed to their injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital, while the remaining victims, aged between 15 and 28 years old, are in stable condition, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.
Witnesses reported hearing gunshots around 10:27 p.m. near Lemon Hill Drive, with officials suspecting the involvement of three shooters and potentially modified firearms. Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel indicated that modifications might allow semi-automatic firearms to fire in rapid succession. This tragic incident has sparked discussions about the safety of public spaces and has prompted local authorities to explore measures aimed at reducing violence in the city.
