Michigan Opens Bow Hunting for Antlerless Deer

Michigan has officially expanded bow hunting for antlerless deer throughout the Upper Peninsula, allowing hunters the chance to harvest these deer during archery season for the first time in ten years. This decision stems from recent findings that indicate the previous ban has not led to measurable improvements in the region’s deer population, which has struggled after harsh winters in 2013-2015.

The regulation update, approved by the Natural Resources Commission, aims to balance the male-to-female deer ratio, addressing concerns raised by the Upper Peninsula Deer Advisor Team. With the new amendment, hunters can use various licenses to harvest antlerless deer from October 1 to January 1, giving wildlife managers an additional tool to sustainably manage deer populations in this critical area.
