Missouri Reports 243 New Chronic Wasting Disease Cases

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) has confirmed 243 new cases of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in white-tailed deer during the ongoing deer-hunting season. This alarming spike was identified through testing 36,000 deer across 35 counties, marking first-time detections in several areas including Audrain and Callaway counties.

Since CWD’s first appearance in Missouri in 2012, a total of 815 cases have been confirmed statewide. Although the geographic spread raises concerns, MDC reports the overall infection rate remains below 1% among tested samples, suggesting the effectiveness of their management strategies.
