Mother’s Day Event for Victims of Gun Violence

As Mother’s Day approaches, the “Silence the Violence” event in Detroit aims to support mothers who have lost children to gun violence. Organizers Alisa Sanders and Tabitha Nahabedian, who have each endured the heartbreak of losing their children, are at the forefront of this movement, which encourages collective mourning and healing in the community. “This is when some mothers grieve, so we would like to take the time to honor them,” says Pastor Barry Randolph, emphasizing the urgent need to address gun violence, a leading cause of death among children in America.

The gathering, set for noon on Saturday at the Church of the Messiah, will feature keynote remarks from Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist and provide emotional support through licensed therapists. With a powerful message of solidarity and hope, the event reminds attendees that they are not alone in their grief, while also focusing on bringing awareness to the ongoing issue of gun violence. Community members are encouraged to participate and share this important resource with anyone who might benefit from it.
