Nevada Senators Propose Bill to Ban Bump Stocks

U.S. Senators from Nevada are championing a bipartisan bill to ban the sale of bump stocks, which have been used in tragic mass shootings, including the 2017 Las Vegas attack that claimed 60 lives. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto, Martin Heinrich, and Susan Collins are advocating for the Banning Unlawful Machinegun Parts Act, citing concerns that without federal restrictions, bump stocks could increase the risk of future violence.

The proposed legislation comes nearly eight years after the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival shooting, where a gunman used a bump stock to fire over 1,100 rounds into a crowd of 22,000 people. Senator Cortez Masto emphasizes that devices facilitating rapid gunfire have no place in our communities and highlights the urgency for Congress to act to prevent such horrific events from recurring.
